Next i moved the files back to their original location and resaved the playlist as before.
Rescanned

Now errors show up for other playlists, but not the new 'Test playlist'.
The inference is that MusicBee has not updated the other playlists with the new path.

I resaved the other playlists and rescanned.
Result: no errors for this album in any playlists

Does this mean the problem is with MusicBee? Also, what is X: and how is this different from the original location?

I don't know. It could still be a problem with MinimServer. The paths in the playlist files look fine, so there's no reason I can see that they shouldn't index.
Something about moving the files cured the issue.

X: is just the mapped 'music' drive on my NAS

If you still have the original failing playlist, can you do a byte-by-byte comparison with the new playlist that doesn't fail for this album? There might be an invisible difference such as CR/LF/space/tab/etc. that is causing the failure.

ok, i'll see if i've got the right files to compare. I won't have time to do this for a few days now.
