Question about mesh network - lyapounov - 30-08-2020 16:52 Hi all, I will move into a new place, a big old house, with router far away, and no ethernet plugs. I have one solution, which is to put my synology next to my Klimax on the same switch. But that is quite noisy. Another solution would be to set-up a Mesh network, like Orbi from Netgear, or Deco from TP-Link, or Eero, or... Has someone experimented this ? Speed seems OK (DSF is no more than 10 Mb/s and those Mesh network claim Gb/s) but what about latency ? Thx ! RE: Question about mesh network - Peter@57m - 30-08-2020 18:09 I have 3 DS/DSMs in the house - only one is hard wired. I used to use Sonos before so had a number of Boosts and Bridges around. One DS and one DSM each connect to a local Boost which in turn is connected via a mesh network to a Sonos Boost which is hardwired to my router. The server is hardwired to the same router. This all works fine except I have problems with 24/192 WAV files. 24/96 files and below are fine. I can also stream the highest quality JB Radio 2 stream - 16/192 OK. So from my experience mesh, at least with Sonos kit, is fine. Thx ! that is not that much a good news, as I have 16 albums in DSD128, 509 in DSD64, and 209 in 24/192... Anyway, I bought the TP-Link Deco M5; I'll see what the result is... I may then disable the minimserver conversion to wav files... RE: Question about mesh network - Peter@57m - 30-08-2020 22:21 I should really have said it’s an intermittent problem. Currently listening to Eagles Hotel California 24/192 transcoded to Wav with no problem. Hopefully you’ll be OK. RE: Question about mesh network - Snoopy08 - 31-08-2020 13:47 Am using an Orbi mesh network and stream multi channel DSF files to my Panasonic player using MinimServer and BubbleUPnP. No problems whatsoever but my Pana is only 2 metres away from the Orbi. Depending on the size of the house and building material, you may want to get more than 2 Orbi units. Suggest getting a phone app to measure the wifi signal and add an additional satellite if required. RE: Question about mesh network - Donuk - 31-08-2020 19:05 iStumbler, free, is good for doing room to room wifi signal tests. Can be a bit buggy and moody and nags. But fine to solve your problem https://download.cnet.com/iStumbler/3000-18508_4-10221917.html Donuk RE: Question about mesh network - lyapounov - 01-09-2020 06:12 (31-08-2020 19:05)Donuk Wrote: iStumbler, free, is good for doing room to room wifi signal tests. Thx Donuk FYI, iStrumbler is no longer free... Will get it anyway RE: Question about mesh network - lyapounov - 13-09-2020 18:13 ok, listening dsf from my synology to my klimax, using the TP-Link Deco M5 mesh network. No issue RE: Question about mesh network - Peter@57m - 13-09-2020 18:43 Glad to know you have that working successfully |
