I am using minimserver 2 on a synology with bubbleupnp on my phone and this combination works really well.
I would like to be able to make an exact search for a particular title but the search utilises "contains" so I get multiple matches
Example - I wish to find all tracks with the title "discipline"
But I end up with any track with the word discipline in
Any advice

This is a limitation of the control point. MininServer implements the UPnP Search feature which provides this capability (and much more) but the control point is hard wired to use "contains" in its searches.

Some are better than others but i don't know of any control point (on any platform) that gives you the choice between exact matching and "contains" matching. Please speak nicely to your favourite control point author about the possibility of adding this.

BubbleUPnP 3.4.13 (to be available soon) will surface exact matches on top of search results while still using "contains" queries.
