MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - MiniMe - 09-12-2023 21:15 Hi With the latest Synology DSM update to DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 I notice some issues in MinimServer 2.2 update 245's behaviour. This is what happens: Some times the mimimserver server disappears. You then get a grey icon in Minimwatch (MacOS). If you go online in the browser to Minimserver IP address it reports itself as running though. Restarting the Diskstation helps, also restarting Minimserver instance helps. I see no errors in the log as far as I know. Does anyone else have this and/or how to resolve? RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - simoncn - 09-12-2023 22:07 A problem like this is usually caused by an issue with your local network that causes UPnP device discovery not to work correctly (see this page). When MinimWatch loses contact with MinimServer, does your control point app also lose contact so that you are unable to view your library and play music? RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - MiniMe - 10-12-2023 00:12 Thanks for the quick reply. Some example behaviour: case 1) iPhone app that auto lists available DLNA devices shows Diskstation Media Server and Minimserver side by side when all is up and running. When browse/listen via Minimserver all can go perfectly well but sometimes music stops and when re browsing available DLNA servers only Diskstation Media Server is left (and Minimserver gone). case 2) Network player that plays from Miniserver and can playback at all times, even when Minimserver is showing as unavailable (but Synology running). The control app in such case shows Minimserver (offline) but playback continues. When in such case opening another app (e.g. as in case 1) Minimserver is in that app normally showing as available (and can browse/listen etc). case 3) Mac computer (when issue has happened) has MinimWatch showing a grey icon and (test app) Linn Kazoo is not showing the library. When going into Minimserver IP and performing Rescan, MinimWatch then still shows grey icon and in Kazoo the library pops up perfectly (and can browse/listen etc). Restarting network does not resolve the issue, but restarting Diskstation makes Minimserver show up again, that is, until it's gone again? Issue is appearing since last few weeks with no change in computer, nas, or player except all here and there got their most recent updates. Seen the issue a number of times where restarting Diskstation always was the clue to resolve, until it's gone again. Restarting network etc has no impact. Unsure how to monitor or reproduce. It does not happen super frequently. RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - simoncn - 10-12-2023 09:02 Thanks for the additional detail. From your description, this is definitely a UPnP network discovery issue. It is possible that there might be some interaction between Synology Media Server and MinimServer that is causing this. As a test, please try disabling Synology Media Server to see if this makes any difference. If the problem still happens with Synology Media Server disabled, it is likely to be caused by an issue with your router. What router do you have and does it have a configuration setting for IGMP snooping? How is your Synology NAS connected to the router? (direct Ethernet cable connection, wi-fi, via a switch, etc.) RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - MiniMe - 10-12-2023 17:07 Thanks for the suggestions. When issue appears again will start narrowing down by turning off Synology's Mediaserver. Note: Minimserver and Synology media server ran for years side by side error free. Router's IGMP snooping=off. RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - simoncn - 10-12-2023 18:33 It is possible that some change in Synology DSM is causing this. I will try some experiments with DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 to see if I can reproduce the problem. RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - simoncn - 10-12-2023 23:04 Everything has been working fine here for several hours with MinimServer and Synology Media Server running together on the same NAS using DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3. How long does it take for the problem to show up on your system? RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - MiniMe - 11-12-2023 21:47 I've due to UPnP suggestion above reset my router 1,5 day ago and redid all settings again to fix a starting point. For 1.5 day ran successfully multiple simple mixed tests with playing/browsing on computer, phone, player with Synology Media server and MinimServer side by side but could not get MinimServer to crash. Later for a couple of hours tried listening with iPhone over the network with upnp music player. Interesting point: Directly after the router/diskstation reset it was possible to move the playhead in each song in the playlist directly after song start to wherever in the song and the player picked up unexpectedly fast and snappy. However, after a few hours of scrolling songs, skipping songs back & forth, then moving playhead in each song to the middle for a row for say 50 songs, I noticed the player seemed to crash, as it would not pick up anymore when moving the playhead, or simply it got impossible to move it, looks like a buffer got filled. Then finally music did not want to play. Moved to Synology Media Server and playback from there would work perfect. On the iPhone MinimServer was still visible in the server list, but when browsing into the library got a spinning wheel. Thus started computer, opened MinimWatch. White icon, looked ok. Opened Linn Kazoo app, first sight looked ok, but then I noticed when browsing back in the MinimServer library that album art was gone (stored as separate images in music folder), then when moving to top level (select server level) reselected MinimServer, then when opening MinimServer music library got a spinning wheel that would not disappear. Then again to top level, and MinimServer was gone from the server list. MinimWatch then still gave a white icon. I put on Debug Logging level, but that didn't give any hints. I tried doing a rescan. MinimWatch icon would not go yellow like normal. It seemed to fail. It took a minute or so (no updates in the log window) then got a popup from MinimWatch Error: "Error from server MinimServer[DiskStation]: see MinimWatch log for details". This is what is in the log: 00:30:49.654 AWT-EventQueue-0: TrayView: rescan action 00:31:49.665 Thread-28: Error 1 [Unknown] invoking GetAllPackageStatus on remote runtime monitor Error 1 [Unknown] invoking GetAllPackageStatus on remote runtime monitor 00:38:52.479 Thread-28: refreshing monitor status 00:38:52.480 Thread-5: MonitorRefreshStatusAction starting 00:38:52.538 Thread-28: ServerControl: restartServer action (with rescan) MinimWatch icon - upon its error message - went grey. MinimServer via IP address says happily: "Media server status for MinimServer[DiskStation]: Running". (but that was no longer true) Router reboot: no change Diskstation reboot: MinimServer up and running again. MinimWatch white icon, MinimServer library correctly showing in Linn Kazoo also correctly showing in iPhone app. So, a best guess how to replicate. Just use multiple players for 2 days and add a couple of hours "active" playback where in each song you skip some minutes by moving the playhead back/forth in multiple (my case 50-70) songs while they play. RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - simoncn - 12-12-2023 18:48 If something like this this happens again, please capture diagnostic information as soon as you see unexpected behaviour.. To do this, open the MinimServer/appData shared folder and download the files minimserver.log and minimserver-out.log to another device. Also, download any recent crash log files that you see in this folder (log files with names starting minimserver-crash). It is important to capture this information as soon as the problem occurs. When you have done this, post a description to the forum of what happened. I will contact you with details of how you can get the log files to me. RE: MinimServer 2.2 update 245 vs DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 issues - MiniMe - 13-12-2023 02:57 Okay, tried downloading 1500 songs from MinimServer into the iPhone app for offline playing. Download stopped at say 150 songs without warning. MinimServer then stopped responding. Maybe this is a scenario that can be replicated. In above, browsing back to uPnP device Minimserver gave spinning wheel. Kazoo app on computer also shows spinning wheel. MinimWatch says white icon though. After clicking rescan in MinimWatch no yellow icon is shown, looks like no response. After a minute or two the error pops up that indicates to look in MinimWatch log. MinimWatch icon thereafter goes gray. In AppData folder there's no -crash file generated; in -out logfile the last status is still [running].; In minimserver.log you see the 150th song being downloaded then a number of ohNet messages and then it's quiet. It's like Minimserver does not write to the log about its non response. |
