2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - Timmipoo - 23-09-2025 19:25 I am setting up a new Synology DS224+ to run Minimserver. Two questions about this: 1) The instruction say in order to run two instances you should install Mininserver in a Docker container. Does this mean both installed in separate Docker containers or one native Synology and one in a Docker? 2) Will this count as two licenses? RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - simoncn - 23-09-2025 20:03 I also have a DS224+ and I am very pleased with it. It is quick and quiet (important for me!) You need a native installation for the Docker installation to work (see this section). The native installation doesn't need to be running, just installed and started once. This enables the license for the native installation to be shared by any number of Docker instances running on the same device. You can run 1 native instance and 1 Docker instance or you can run 2 Docker instances, whichever you prefer. In either case, only one license is needed. RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - Timmipoo - 25-09-2025 15:13 Thank you for the explanation. I set-up the NAS. Installed MinimServer native and an additional with the Container Manager. Everything worked just as you said. The two instances of MinimWatch popped up on the bottom of my PC screen. I copied just a few albums over from my Windows 10 PC to the /Music folder on the NAS using a mapped drive. Used MinimWatch to manually copy all of the properties from the MinimServer I have running on the PC (except library folder locations, of course). Now here comes the question, I hope you can help me with: - Can't get playlists to work. Probably because I don't have the music file location format correct. I got the format from File Station. The log file shows: "Error: playlist Playlists/Test.m3u8: no content directory for /volume1/Music/Favs/Bela Fleck/Bela Fleck - Rhapsody in Blue [CD]/01 - Béla Fleck - Rhapsody In Blue(grass).flac" Any Ideas? Thanks Edit: D'oh. I figured it out. Relative path for the music files worked. RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - simoncn - 25-09-2025 17:24 This error message might be a MinimServer problem. You should be able to use either an absolute path or a relative path. Please confirm the following: 1) Is /volume1/Music listed in the contentDir MinimServer property? 2) What is the full file path for Playlists/Test.m3u8? 3) Is this playlist under a directory listed in the contentDir MinimServer property? RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - Timmipoo - 25-09-2025 19:52 1) Yes, /volume1/Music on the native instance. It's just /Music on the Docker instance. (It would not accept the leading /volume1) 2) From File Station: /volume1/Music/Playlists/Test.m3u8 3) Yes. I also later explicitly added /volume1/Music/Playlists in contentDir MinimServer property. And I changed to the entry in Test.m3u8 to ../Favs/Bela Fleck/Bela Fleck - Rhapsody in Blue [CD]/01 - Béla Fleck - Rhapsody In Blue(grass).flac So, I'm guilty of changing two things at once, but it seems to work fine now. I think it just started working. Maybe I didn't wait long enough for things to update... and bye the way, Bela Fleck - Rhapsody in Blue. Is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and check it out. RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - simoncn - 25-09-2025 20:15 If you have /volume1/Music (only) in contentDir, it should be fine to have ether /volume1/Music/Favs/Bela Fleck/Bela Fleck - Rhapsody in Blue [CD]/01 - Béla Fleck - Rhapsody In Blue(grass).flac or ../Favs/Bela Fleck/Bela Fleck - Rhapsody in Blue [CD]/01 - Béla Fleck - Rhapsody In Blue(grass).flac in the playlist /volume1/Music/Playlists/Test.m3u8. I will set up a test to check this is wokring. RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - Timmipoo - 26-09-2025 00:45 I just set it up exaclty as you instructed and both the absolute and relative paths work. The problem was actually a bone-headed mistake. It was Béla not Bela. Darn Hungarian name. ;-) I'm getting things working pretty well. Thanks for your diligence. RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - Wolfgang - 24-12-2025 11:40 May I ask what port gets the configuration interface of an additional MinimServer via container? The http-port setting says 9790, but it is not as this is the port of the native MinimServer... happy Christmas, Wolfgang RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - simoncn - 24-12-2025 15:13 The container instance should default to port 9792 for the configuration page and a randomly selected unused port for ohNet. You can change these by setting the http.port and ohnet.port MinimServer configuration properties. Edit: fixed incorrect information about the ohNet port. RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS - Wolfgang - 25-12-2025 21:01 (24-12-2025 15:13)simoncn Wrote: The container instance should default to port 9792 for the configuration page and port 9793 for ohNet. You can change these by setting the http.port and ohnet.port MinimServer configuration properties. Thank you for your answer! The ports for the container instance are actually as you tell me, but their setting in configuration properties say 9790 and 9791. So I wonder what happens if I would change them? |
