MinimWatch icon not in menu bar
2024 MacBook Air M3; Sequoia v. 15.1.1
First installed MinimServer on Synology NAS and it’s up and running correctly. I’ve installed Java JDK 23 prior to installing MinimWatch 2. Verified Java installation: 2024-13-MacBook-Air:~ steve$ javac -version javac 23.0.1 Then installed MinimWatch 2 according to instructions, allowing all access. MinimWatch enabled on Local Network setting in Privacy and Security. Double-clicked MinimWatch.app from Applications in Finder, but no icon shows up in the menu bar. Checked processes with Activity Monitor and see two entries for MinimWatch, one with the music note icon and the other without the icon. Checked the MinimWatch Library folder for logs: minimwatch.log: MinimWatch 2.2 update 116, Copyright © 2012-2024 Simon Nash. All rights reserved. Java SE Runtime Environment (build 23.0.1+11-39) Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.0.1+11-39, mixed mode, sharing) Java runtime options: -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 Platform default charset is UTF-8 System platform is macos-arm UPnP port 9791 has been selected Active subnet is 10.0.0.0 Startup complete MinimServer[DiskStation] is running minimwatch-out.log: 2024-12-01 18:23:17.733 WatchLaunchJava[26657:1236563] starting Java for MinimWatch 2024-12-01 18:23:17.754 WatchLaunchJava[26657:1236570] starting Java for MinimWatch MinimWatch 2.2, Copyright © 2012-2022 Simon Nash. I also changed the background color of the screen/menu bar to a light color, but the icon isn’t there. There isn’t an ‘overflow’ area on the menu bar where the icon could be hidden. It’s not essential that I use MinimWatch, but it would be handy while I process a bunch of Music playlists that will require multiple re-scans. Puzzling that MinimWatch is apparently running OK, but the icon isn’t visible, and as such, can’t be used. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Late edit: A weird thing happened---I've been using my Mac on Wi-Fi in trying to work through this MinimWatch install. As I was going off to bed I plugged in my USB hub that has an Ethernet connection to my router, and the NAS is also hard-wired to the router. As soon as I did that the MinimWatch music note icon appeared on the menu bar, as well as my Synology Drive client icon that was also not showing. No idea why that should have occurred--anyone have any insight? Tomorrow I'll go back to Wi-Fi and see if the icons disappear again. And of course, all the functions of the MinimWatch icon drop-down are there and a re-scan worked as it should. |

RE: MinimWatch icon not in menu bar
Thanks for letting me know about this issue. I haven't seen it before.
The messages about IMKClient and IMKInputSession are caused by a bug in macOS 15 (Sequoia). They are not relevant to the missing icon issue. Please do the following: 1) Use the Ethernet connection to start MinimWatch 2) From the menu bar icon, select Show log and set the logging level to Debug 3) Exit MinimWatch 4) Use the WiFi connection to reproduce the MinimWatch startup missing icon issue 5) After 20 seconds, make a copy of the file ~/Library/MinimWatch/minimwatch.log 6) Zip or compress this log file copy and attach the compressed file to a post here. Don't copy the log file contents directly into a forum post. The minimwatch.log file should provide me with information about why the icon is not appearing. |

RE: MinimWatch icon not in menu bar
Simon,
I discovered something today that should make the debugging unnecessary. I found that when the display resolution is set to the default value--1470 x 956--the icon is not visible. If I change the display resolution to 1710 x 1112 (the only available higher resolution) the icon appears. This is also the case for the Synology Drive client icon. The icons are also not visible at resolutions lower than the default. I made a false assumption that the Ethernet connection from my USB hub affected the icon visibility. What I didn't note was that the hub is also connected via HDMI to a Samsung TV, which I have been using to display album covers when the computer was connected to my DAC via USB. When I plugged in the hub, the display switched to mirroring the TV, at a different resolution, and hence, the icons appeared with that resolution. This would seem to be a Sequoia problem and not an app problem. In any case, MinimWatch is up and running and all the menu items on the drop-down are 'live'. I tested the top 5 items and they all worked as they should. The only problem with using the higher resolution is that everything on the screen is too small, but switching back and forth isn't a problem. |

RE: MinimWatch icon not in menu bar
Thanks for this information. As you say, this appears to be a macOS issue that MinimWatch can't do anything to fix.

RE: MinimWatch icon not in menu bar
I found that if I go to Displays and toggle 'Show all resolutions' and then choose 1470 x 918 (the setting just below the default) all the menu bar icons are displayed correctly. This is a better alternative than going to a higher resolution with the smaller images and text.
