readyNAS 102 - Naim - Minim

Dear Simon,

I have the current readyNAS 102 recommended to me by NAIM audio to work with my network streamer.

It has an iTunes server which their software manual says supports aiff files, but which does not seem to work.

Your install guides do not cover this model, so I wonder if you would be kind enough to let me know:

1) Can I install minim server on this readyNAs model?

2) Will minmserver support aiff ?

3) The Naim network player (ND5XS) says it can play audio files stored on a computer or on network storage over UPnP™. It can play the full range of audio file and stream formats at up to 24bit/192kHz resolution: WAV, FLAC, Apple Lossless, AIFF etc. Can I assume that if your answer to the first two questions is yes, that the network player will work with minim serve?

I’d be very grateful for any advice you can give me.

The newest ReadyNAS models (100 and 300 series) aren't yet supported by MinimServer. This is because these models have a new operating system which doesn't run on previous models and doesn't run applications developed for previous models. How anyone could think this makes sense as a marketing strategy is completely beyond me.

To make MinimServer run on these models, I will need to buy new hardware and spend a significant amount of time developing a new version of the MinimServer installation package using the new SDK for the new operating system. Having done all this for the previous model range not very long ago, this isn't exactly my highest priority at the moment.

At some point I will turn my attention to this, but for now there is no MinimServer support for the new model range. I'm sorry to disappoint you.

AIFF is fully supported by MinimServer.

MinimServer supports everything on this list. Many NAIM users have used MinimServer successfully as their media server, so I would expect MinimServer to be compatible with this player.

Hi Simon

Sorry to hijack this thread - but sort of related. You say those NASs are not supported by Minim. Do you have a list of what NASs do work the easiest, and you could recommend ?

All current models from Synology and QNAP are fully supported by MinimServer.
