Which would put us all back to square one. Sorry to sound bleak – it's more a comment on the Tzarist executives at the BBC Sounds unit than anything else.

Unfortunately this has just happened. I have removed the test build while I consider next steps.

For users who have already installed the test build, the bbcstreams=auth option will stop working soon.

Out of curiosity, how did they effect this clamp down? Is it a general thing, or did they specifically target Minimstreamer? Suddenly paranoid that they might be monitoring this forum.

The BBC is definitely monitoring this forum thread. The email they sent me referred to streams provided to MinimServer by a third party and they could only have got this information from this post.

Ah. Well, they already know how we feel about all this then.

I doubt if they are very interested in the views of a few people on this forum. Streaming from URLs to old equipment must be a small percentage of overall use for them. The world is all phones and iPads now. It's the dismissive attitude that upsets me though having been a listener for so long. The reality is nothing is likely to change their new policy but I think a little constructive help in adapting to the new streams for smaller developers would be appropriate bearing in mind it's a public service.

This is very different from previous changes in stream formats or technology where older devices could not support the newer format. In this case, the format is identical but some consumers have been blocked from receiving the streams based on arbitrary and unfair criteria.

Time for that formal complaint then?

BBC R3, R4 and R4Xtra all got axed today, too.

Bizarrely, my Naim BBC Radio presets also stopped working today as well even though Naim are officially an approved provider of BBC Radio audio streams. I can only imagine that in their maniacal zeal to swing the axe, the BBC swung too far and decapitated a few innocents.
