As I write this, I'm listening to music using a SheevaPlug running MinimServer on Debian Linux ARM. My music collection is on a USB-attached 2.5 inch 320GB Hitachi single-platter hard drive that's completely silent unless I put my ear a couple of inches away. The hard drive spins down automatically when not in use to save power. The total cost was about GBP 150 and I'm extremely pleased with it.

This looks like a great setup and as my Buffalo NAS has just decided to depart itself, I'm interested. Do you get Linux onto the SheevaPlug via telnet, if not how? How much Linux do you need to know? In your search for a near silent HD did you find any with larger capacity that you would have been happy with - I think I want 1TB or 2TB. Thanks Alan
