The new format is ext4 and the old format is xfs. You are correct that a full backup and restore of your music files would be needed.

There is some information about the EX upgrade here. Your Melco dealer should be aware of this.

You were very unlucky to have the download problem and it is unlikely to occur again. If it does occur again, there might be a problem with your internet connection that is preventing large files from being downloaded.
