Running MinimServer on a plug computer

I bought the multiboot version of the SheevaPlug (see this page) with a 4GB SD card preloaded with Debian wheezy. Setting it up to run MinimServer and formatting and mounting the external drive wasn't too difficult—as long as you know the basics of Linux, you'll be fine.

I chose this 2.5 inch HDD because it can be powered from the SheevaPlug's USB port, thus achieving my low power goal. The 320GB Hitachi drive that I bought has a single platter (most 2.5 inch drives have 2 platters) and had better reviews than their 500GB single platter model. I've had previous good experience with Hitachi drives, and I've also been pleased with this purchase.

From a bit of searching just now, I see there's a 1TB Samsung 2.5 inch 2-platter drive, but I haven't checked its power consumption. The power supply in the SheevaPlug doesn't like too much power draw, so you need to be careful (or use an external power supply). If you want 2TB, you'll need an externally powered 3.5 inch HDD.
