Information Docker update method
Hello!

What is the recommended way to update docker?

Today i stopped the minimserver container in portainer and then recreated the container with the option "re-pull image" checked. On restart minimserver was updated to 246 but I was back to a new install with all my settings lost and also trial license settings lost.

This is the method i update all other containers i use and i've never had issues with lost settings.

Please can you advise the recommended update steps?

Thanks,

RE: Docker update method
MinimServer automatically installs any available updates when it is restarted, so you should just stop the container and restart it. You can also check for updates and install them using MinimWatch.

If you need to recreate the container for some reason and you have a full license activated for the container, make sure you deactivate the full license before you destroy the container. If you don't do this, your license activation will be "orphaned" and unavailable for reuse in the new container.

Thanks for the info.

You can also use the MinimServer configuration web page to check for updates and install any updates that are available. This should be the simplest way to do it.

How does this work with the license? for example if after 1 year there is an update but I haven't paid for the new updates I wouldn't want MS to auto update on restart.

RE: Docker update method
MinimServer autoupdate (on any platform, not just Docker) checks the license first and doesn't autoupdate to the current version if this version is not compatible with the currently active full license. The same check is made if the user tries to install an update manually.

The situation where this can cause problems is when the license has been downgraded to starter for any reason. In this case, MinimServer will autoupdate to the current version and this can prevent the user from activating their full license because it is not compatible with the update version that is running.
