I am having a minor issue with some albums showing up twice in my Artist index. However, they are not completely identical. For example, Bill Evans Waltz for Debby has one album where all the tracks are listed and another album that just has the song Waltz for Debby listed. This happens with several more albums, but given the size of my collection its a relatively small sample, although I would like to fix the problem if possible. Any help is appreciated. We may need more info. I have my music on a QNAP NAS. If I delete an album from the NAS (for whatever reasons) QNAP puts the album into a 'Recycle' bin that is located on the NAS. If I then put the album back on the NAS, Minimserver can see the 'album' and the same 'album' in the recycle bin.

I have had a few occasions when I have had to abort copying an album to the NAS. I will then delete the part-copied album, but it goes into my QNAP recycle bin. When I do the proper copy, I now have the whole album and a partial album (in the recycle bin), exactly as you describe.

I don't know if this is your issue. If it is, then the solution is to go to the recycle bin and delete whatever is in there.

BubbleUPnP and Kinsky Windows allow you to view the metadata URI for any track, which includes the folder path to the file. By doing this for both copies of the album, you should be able to find the location of the duplicate tracks and delete them.

I am using a Synology DS411slim and it has capability to enable a recycle bin but I had this turned off in my Shared Folder settings for My Music folder. After I enabled the Recycle Bin there was nothing in the folder and so nothing to delete.

Here is what I have found based on running Kinsky in Windows. The folder that contains all the album tracks lists the URI and Artwork URI links. However, the folder with the single track just lists the Artwork URI. This is consistent with the other duplicate scenarios a well. In addition the artwork URI points to two different locations.

This one references the details for file in the folder with the single track:

This one references the details for the file in the folder with all the tracks (where I am looking at the details for the same track):

This one references the details for the Artwork URI for the folder that contains all the tracks:

In addition it is interesting to note that unlike the Bill Evans album this one contains the URI and it has a different coding extension (.wav vs. .flac).

The single track is the embedded artwork for the file Music/Tape 3/Waltz for Debby(take 2).wav. I'm surprised that you aren't seeing the Uri for this file as well as the Artwork Uri. Are you able to play this file?

The folder with the complete album is Music/Bill Evans Trio/Waltz For Debby.

Because MinimServer is scanning the folder Music/Tape 3 as well as the folder Music/Bill Evans Trio/Waltz For Debby, you will see two copies of the album. You could prevent this from happening by setting the Album tag for the file in the Music/Tape 3 folder to some other value such as Tape 3 or Tape 3 - Waltz for Debby. This isn't ideal but I can't think of any way to make MinimServer completely ignore the Album information in this file.

A Star for Bram:

The single track is the file Music/Tape 7/Antwoman (Dub).wav (with embedded artwork).

The folder with the complete album is Music/Robyn Hitchcock/A Star For Bram.

Because MinimServer is scanning the folder Music/Tape 7 as well as the folder Music/Robyn Hitchcock/A Star For Bram, you will see two copies of the album. You could prevent this from happening by setting the Album tag for the file in the Music/Tape 7 folder to some other value.

Okay so think I have it. Tape 3 and 7 refer to file folders I set up to create .m3u playlists that I use for when I record some digital music to reels. I actually just deleted them because they already served their purpose.
