MinimWatch icon greyed out
My Naim network player has no problem accessing MinimServer on my Synology NAS, so MinimServer appears to be working correctly. However, the MinimWatch icon on my Windows 10 PC is greyed out.

When I first checked Options > Show Log (watch) in MinimWatch it told me I was running an out of date version of MinimWatch (0.8.3), though I have no recollection of ever seeing a prompt to install an update. I then installed MinimWatch 0.8.4, but the icon is still greyed out. The log info shown below does not seem to indicate any problem. What might I be doing wrong?

Very possibly nothing. The first step is to check the firewall on your Windows 10 PC. Temporarily disable it, then try running MinimWatch. If MinimWatch then works, you will need to set an exception in your firewall settings. The exception will be for Java (Java™ Platform SE Binary) rather than for MinimWatch as such.

RE: MinimWatch icon greyed out
I was prompted by the Windows Firewall to make an exception for MinimWatch after making the upgrade to 0.8.4. Not surprisingly, therefore, temporarily turning off the firewall made no difference to my problem.

That sorts the firewall issue, assuming that you have rebooted the computer since you made the exception.

The next step is to check network settings. I have found that recent updates have arbitrarily changed the network settings on my Windows machines.

Can Windows Explorer see and access files on your NAS?

RE: MinimWatch icon greyed out
This started happening to me recently as well, and no end of 'playing' with the windows defender firewall and javaw.exe exceptions made any difference.

Eventually, I noticed that my home wifi connection had changed to 'public' from 'private' network type. I've no idea how or exactly when this happened - I assume windows updates are to blame.

As soon as I changed this setting back to Private, minimwatch started working again.

RE: MinimWatch icon greyed out
Windows Explorer has no problem in letting me browse the contents of the NAS where MinimServer resides. My network category is listed as 'Private'.

Any more suggestions?

Check the active subnet by looking at the MinimWatch log. If this isn't the correct subnet, you need to set the ohnet.subnet property.

Edit: I just checked your original post and I see that you already have ohnet.subnet set to 192.168.1.0. Is this the correct value for communicating with your NAS? If so, do you have a firewall active on the NAS?

RE: MinimWatch icon greyed out
The IP address of my NAS is 192.168.1.67, so I assume the ohnet.subnet property is correct. I've already tried temporarily turning off the Windows Firewall. but it had no effect.

RE: MinimWatch icon greyed out
Do you have a firewall active on the NAS? This might be blocking inbound connections to MinimServer from MinimWatch.

Sometimes problems like this can be cured by powering everything off and then powering everything on again. Have you tried this?

Edit: Perhaps just try powering the NAS off and on again first.

RE: MinimWatch icon greyed out
Oops. I didn't read your earlier post very carefully and just assumed you were talking about the firewall on my PC. A check of my NAS configuration reveals that a firewall option is available (something I didn't know before) but not activated.

However, your advice to try a power reset of the NAS did the trick. All is now well. Thanks for pointing me in the correct direction.
