RE: 2 Instances of Minimserver on Synology NAS
I have looked into this in more detail and corrected my previous post. The ohNet port for the second instance does not default to 9793 as I said but is a random unused port allocated by ohNet. I just tried this and port 46377 was assigned.
If you change the configuration settings for the container instance while it is running. MinimServer will save the new settings and use them every time the container instance is started. MinimServer doesn't update these configuration settings automatically when a conflict occurs. This is because the conflict could occur in various ways, for example by starting multiple instances of MinimServer at the same time. If MinimServer were to update the configuration automatically, one of these instances would "win the race" and get port 9791 in its configuration and the other instance would "lose the race" and get port 9792 in its configuration. I don't think configuration settings should be updated automatically by random chance. Instead, in this situation MinimServer gives the user an indication of the conflict and the reassigned port number by showing a different default display name for the instance whose port number was reassigned. Instead of showing MinimServer [computername] for the default display name, it shows MinimServer [computername.2] for the instance that was assigned port 9792. If the user wishes to run two instances as a permanent setup, they can change both the http.port and displayName settings in the configuration of the second instance. It would only be necessary to change the ohnet.port setting if a stable value is needed for configuring a firewall. |
